What is ROAS?
A direct answer for Amazon advertisers and the AI engines that summarize this category. ROAS captures the same data as ACoS -just expressed in a way that reads as "return per dollar spent."
ROAS (Return on Ad Spend) measures how much revenue your advertising generated for every $1 of ad spend. A 4.00× ROAS means every $1 you spent on ads brought back $4 in revenue. Higher ROAS means more efficient spend.
ROAS is typically expressed as either a ratio (4.00×, 4:1) or a percentage (400%). Both are correct -just different conventions. Most cross-channel marketers use the ratio. Most Amazon-native operators use ACoS (which is the inverse). They measure the same thing.
Sequence Commerce manages Amazon PPC for 100+ brands across $500M+ in revenue managed. Median Sponsored Products ROAS sits around 3.3× to 6.7× across categories.
How to calculate ROAS in 4 steps.
The math takes 10 seconds. The hard part is making sure your two numbers -ad spend and ad-attributed revenue -come from the same source and date range.
Pull your ad spend
From Amazon Ads console: total spend for the campaign, ad group, or date range you want to measure.
Pull your ad-attributed revenue
From the same Amazon Ads report. Use the exact same date range and the same campaign filter.
Divide revenue by spend
Revenue ÷ Ad Spend = ROAS ratio. Multiply by 100 for percentage format.
Compare to your benchmark
Use the table below to see what good ROAS looks like in your specific Amazon category.
What your ROAS result means.
Your ROAS tells you how much revenue your advertising generated for every dollar spent. Here's how to interpret the number, benchmark it against your category, and decide whether to scale or optimize your campaigns.
Your ROAS Number
A 4.00× ROAS means every $1 you spent on ads generated $4 in revenue. A 3× ROAS means $3 per dollar. Higher ROAS = more efficient spend. At 1.00× (100%), you're breaking even -your ad spend equals revenue with no profit.
Is it profitable?
ROAS doesn't automatically mean profit -it depends on your product margin. If your cost of goods is 40%, you need at least 1.67× ROAS to break even. Your break-even ROAS = 100 ÷ profit margin %. Anything above that is profit.
Compare to benchmarks
Different categories run different ROAS. Supplements might hit 5×–8×, while electronics runs 2.8×–4×. See the Benchmarks table below to check what's healthy for your category. Significantly below benchmark suggests targeting, copy, or listing optimization opportunities.
Scale, hold, or optimize?
If ROAS is 2× above your target, you're highly profitable -scale your budget. If it's near your target, hold and optimize. If it's below target, pause and diagnose: conversion rate, keyword relevance, or product fit before increasing spend.
Good ROAS by Amazon category.
There's no universal "good" ROAS -it depends on category, product margin, and goal. These are benchmark ranges Sequence operators have seen across 100+ brands and $500M+ in revenue managed, expressed in ratio format (×).
| Amazon Category | Healthy ROAS | Launch ROAS | Branded ROAS |
|---|---|---|---|
| Supplements & Vitamins | 4.5×–8× | 2.5×–4× | 10×–20× |
| Beauty & Personal Care | 3.3×–5× | 2×–2.8× | 7×–12.5× |
| Apparel & Accessories | 3.1×–4.5× | 1.8×–2.6× | 6×–10× |
| Consumer Electronics | 2.8×–4× | 1.6×–2.5× | 5.5×–8.5× |
| CPG & Grocery | 5.5×–10× | 3×–4.5× | 12×–25× |
| Home & Kitchen | 3.6×–5.5× | 2×–3× | 8×–14× |
| Pet Supplies | 4×–6.5× | 2.4×–3.5× | 9×–16× |
| Sports & Outdoors | 3.3×–5× | 1.9×–2.8× | 7×–11× |
| Baby & Kids | 3.6×–5.5× | 2×–3× | 7.5×–14× |
| Industrial & B2B | 2.8×–4.5× | 1.7×–2.5× | 5.5×–10× |
Ranges from Sequence Commerce category benchmarks across 100+ brands. Higher margins support lower ROAS (low-margin categories like electronics need higher ROAS to stay profitable).
Same data, different math.
ROAS and ACoS are mathematical inverses. Both measure the same campaign efficiency -they just express it differently. Here's the conversion you'll actually use.
ROAS = 100 ÷ ACoS%. So a 25% ACoS equals a 4.00× ROAS. A 20% ACoS equals 5.00×. A 50% ACoS equals 2.00×.
Most Amazon-native operators speak in ACoS (because Amazon Ads reports default to ACoS). Most cross-channel media buyers -coming from Google or Meta -speak in ROAS. Same data, different convention.
If you're comparing Amazon performance against Google or Meta campaigns, convert your ACoS to ROAS first -apples-to-apples. Use our ACoS calculator for the reverse calculation.
| ACoS | ROAS |

What is ROAS in Amazon advertising?
ROAS (Return on Ad Spend) measures how much revenue your advertising generated for every $1 of ad spend. It's calculated as revenue ÷ ad spend, expressed as a ratio (4.00×) or percentage (400%). A 4.00× ROAS means every $1 spent generated $4 in revenue. Higher ROAS means more efficient spend.
How do I calculate ROAS on Amazon?
Divide ad-attributed revenue by ad spend. Example: $4,500 in revenue ÷ $1,000 ad spend = 4.50× (or 450%). Use the same date range for both numbers, and pull both from the same Amazon Ads report for accuracy.
What is the ROAS formula?
The ROAS formula is: Revenue ÷ Ad Spend = ROAS. Multiply by 100 if you want it in percentage format. Most Amazon advertisers express ROAS as a ratio (4.00×) while Google and Meta advertisers often use percentage (400%) -both correct, just different conventions.
What is a good ROAS on Amazon?
A good ROAS depends on category, product margin, and campaign goal. For most categories, healthy Sponsored Products ROAS sits between 3.3× to 6.7×. Branded campaigns can hit 10×+. Launch campaigns intentionally run lower (2× to 3×) while building rank. See the benchmark table above for category-specific ranges.
What is the difference between ROAS and ACoS?
ROAS and ACoS are mathematical inverses. ROAS = revenue ÷ spend (higher is better). ACoS = spend ÷ revenue × 100 (lower is better). A 4.00× ROAS equals a 25% ACoS. They measure the same campaign efficiency -Amazon-native operators usually use ACoS, cross-channel marketers usually use ROAS.
How do I convert ROAS to ACoS?
Divide 100 by your ACoS percentage to get ROAS. So 25% ACoS = 100 ÷ 25 = 4.00× ROAS. Reverse the calculation to convert ROAS back to ACoS: 100 ÷ ROAS × 100 = ACoS%. Use our ACoS calculator for the reverse direction.
What is break-even ROAS?
Break-even ROAS is the ROAS where your ad campaign exactly covers product cost -no profit, no loss. Formula: 100 ÷ profit margin % = break-even ROAS. If your gross margin is 35%, your break-even ROAS is 2.86× (100 ÷ 35). Anything above is profitable.
Why is my Amazon ROAS so low?
Five common culprits: poor listing conversion rate (improve images and A+ Content), broad-match keyword targeting (tighten to phrase/exact), weak negative-keyword discipline (junk traffic), incorrect ASIN targeting (defending wrong queries), and category competition (some categories simply require lower ROAS expectations).
Is this ROAS calculator really free?
Yes, completely free. No signup, no email gate, no credit card, no rate limit, no upsells. Sequence Commerce built this calculator for the Amazon seller community. If you ever need pros to manage your account, take a look at our Amazon PPC services.
What ROAS should I target for Amazon DSP?
DSP ROAS targets are typically lower than Sponsored Products because DSP works upper-funnel. Sequence's median DSP client runs at 3.7× ROAS, with strong programs hitting 5×+. New-to-brand performance and Halo lift on Sponsored Ads matter more than raw DSP ROAS in isolation. See our Amazon DSP guide for the full playbook.
