What is an AI visibility checker?

An AI visibility checker measures how often your brand is cited in AI-generated answers across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude and Google AI Overviews. Traditional rank trackers measure Google blue-link positions. An AI visibility checker measures citation rate, share of voice, position within the answer, and sentiment inside the AI response itself. The Sequence Commerce checker is free, needs no credit card, and is reviewed by a senior strategist within 24 hours.

Most checkers fall into two camps. Automated SaaS tools such as Profound, Otterly and Peec AI charge roughly $200 to $5,000 per month for continuous tracking. Free agency checkers like this one give you a one-time baseline so you can decide whether ongoing tracking is worth paying for. Run the free check first.

Why AI visibility matters in 2026

Independent clickstream studies from SparkToro and Similarweb put the share of Google searches that end without a click at roughly 60%. AI Overviews and chat assistants answer the question in place, often without sending anyone to a website. If your brand is not cited inside that answer, you are invisible to a growing share of category buyers.

Sequence Commerce runs AI visibility audits for 200+ brands. The pattern is consistent: brands sitting at 0–5% citation rate can reach 25–35% within 60 to 90 days with the right schema, content and entity authority work. See the AEO and GEO agency services.

What the report measures

The 5-page baseline covers the seven KPIs that matter for AI search visibility, all of which we break down in the AI search visibility metrics and KPIs guide:

  • Citation rate per engine. The share of your queries that mention your brand, split by ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude and Google AI Overviews.
  • Share of voice. Your mentions as a percentage of all brand mentions in the category. We detect your top 3 competitors from the AI responses themselves.
  • Position within the answer. Whether you are the first brand named, the third, or a footnote. The highest-impact metric most checkers skip.
  • Sentiment. Whether the AI describes your brand positively, neutrally or negatively. We flag concerning patterns immediately.
  • Source link inclusion. When the AI cites you, does it link back to your domain? Linked citations convert far better downstream than unlinked mentions.
  • Engine-by-engine breakdown. Each engine has different data sources and ranking factors. You will see where you win and where you lose.
  • Three quick wins for the next 30 days. Specific, actionable, and shippable without us.

The metric most tools under-report: citation rate is the headline number teams report. Position within the answer is the number that tracks revenue impact. LLMs treat the first brand named in a response as the default recommendation, so a brand cited seventh performs materially worse than one cited first at the same citation rate. This report tracks both.

Five mistakes brands make tracking AI visibility

1. Tracking branded queries instead of category queries

AI engines already know your brand name. The real test is whether they recommend you for the category queries your buyers ask: “best natural mascara”, “top SaaS analytics tool”, “shopify SEO agency for $5m brands”. Submit those, not “Honeybee Gardens reviews”.

2. Treating every AI engine as equal

The five engines have different data sources, ranking factors and audiences. Being cited constantly by ChatGPT and never by Perplexity is common. Track each engine separately rather than rolling everything into one blended score.

3. Ignoring position within the answer

The most common mistake. Citation rate gets you noticed; position gets you chosen. A brand named seventh performs much worse than one named first, even at identical citation rates.

4. Tracking too many queries

You do not need 500 queries. Thirty to fifty high-value buyer-intent queries tracked weekly is plenty, or three to five for a baseline. Past that you are paying for noise.

5. Skipping manual review

Automated tools miss sarcasm, comparison framing (“Brand X is great, but Brand Y is worth considering”) and outdated information. This checker pairs automated multi-engine querying with a senior strategist reading every response.

How to read your report

The PDF lands in your inbox within 24 hours. Read it in this order:

  • Page 1, executive summary. Your headline citation rate, the biggest gap, and the one action to take in the next 30 days.
  • Page 2, citation rate by engine. Find your best engine and your worst. Defend the first, attack the second.
  • Page 3, share of voice. If your top 3 competitors are at 60% combined and you are at 8%, there is real room. If they are at 25% and you are at 30%, you already lead the category.
  • Page 4, position and sentiment. Negative mentions are worse than no mentions — flag them first. Position tells you whether you are being chosen or merely listed.
  • Page 5, quick wins. Three actions you can ship without us. Brands that act on all three typically add 5 to 10 percentage points of citation rate within 60 days.

What to do next

  • Citation rate 0–5%: start with schema. Deploy FAQPage, HowTo, Article, Person and Organization markup sitewide. See the seven-schema playbook for getting cited in ChatGPT.
  • Citation rate 5–15%: focus on direct-answer content. Add a 50 to 100 word answer block in the first 100 words of every category and product page, and build FAQ hubs.
  • Citation rate above 15%: focus on position. You are cited but probably not first. Invest in entity authority — named publication mentions, original research, structured entity signals — to climb the citation order.

If this is work you would rather not run internally, Sequence Commerce handles the full implementation as part of our AEO and GEO agency services. The free checker is step one. The engagement is an optional step two.

How it works

Three steps. No demo call required.

From form submission to baseline report inside 24 hours. What you do with the data is up to you.

You send your domain and queries

Three to five buyer-intent queries, phrased the way real buyers ask AI engines about your category rather than your branded keywords.

We run them across five engines

Jake Gilbert or Alex Kung runs every query through ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude and Google AI Overviews. Automation tracks citation rate; manual review catches what automation misses.

Citation rate per engine, share of voice, position within the answer, and three quick wins. No sales pitch inside. A strategy call is offered separately if you want one.

Inside the report

Exactly what we look at, and what we tell you to do.

Every report covers the same six sections. Most teams have never seen their brand measured this way.

Citation rate per engine

How often your brand appears in the AI response across all five engines, per query.

Share of voice

Your mentions as a share of all brand mentions in the category, benchmarked against your top 3 competitors.

Position within the answer

First mention, third, or footnote. The highest-impact metric most agencies ignore.

Sentiment

Whether the AI frames your brand positively, neutrally or negatively, with any concerning patterns flagged.

Source link inclusion

Whether citations link back to your domain. Linked citations convert far better downstream.

Three quick wins

Usually missing schema, content gaps, or direct-answer rewrites. Things you can ship without our help.

Case study

From 8% to 33% citation rate across the major AI engines in 60 days.

Honeybee Gardens, founded by Melissa J. Buckley, has been a Sequence Amazon Ads client since April 2025. In April 2026 they ran the same free AI visibility audit you are about to request. Two months after acting on the recommendations, the brand was being cited across ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Grok and Google AI Overviews, and outranking Amazon, Walmart, Ulta and Sephora on several beauty product keywords.

FAQ

The free AI visibility checker, answered.

Is this really free? What is the catch?

Really free, no credit card. The honest catch: we hope the report is good enough that you consider Sequence for the implementation work. If you do not, the report is still yours, with one optional strategy-call offer on day three and nothing after that.

How long does the report take?

24 hours from submission on weekdays. Weekend submissions come back by Monday end of day.

Who does the work?

Jake Gilbert (CRO) or Alex Kung (CEO) personally. Not an analyst and not a fully automated pipeline. The reports are five pages because senior review time is what makes them worth reading.

What tools do you use?

Profound for systematic multi-engine querying, plus manual review directly in ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude and Google AI Overviews. Automation catches the patterns; manual review catches sarcasm, comparison framing and outdated information.

What if my brand is not cited at all?

That is the most common starting point. Most brands between $1M and $10M revenue begin at 0–5% citation rate. The report explains why — usually missing schema, no direct-answer content, weak entity authority — and what to fix first. Brands that act on the three quick wins typically reach 8–15% within 30 to 60 days.

Can I submit branded queries?

You can, but it wastes the audit. AI engines already know your brand name. The useful test is whether they recommend you for category queries such as “best natural mascara” or “top SaaS analytics tool”.

Will you benchmark me against specific competitors?

Yes. We detect the top three competitors that appear alongside you in the AI answers automatically. If you want specific competitors benchmarked instead, reply to the confirmation email with their domains and we will use those.

How is this different from paid AI tracking tools?

Paid tools track weekly over months and cost $200 to $5,000 per month. This is a one-time baseline from a senior strategist. If the baseline shows a real opportunity, the next step is either a Sequence engagement or your own tracking subscription — we will tell you which fits your stage.

Is there a ChatGPT-only visibility checker?

This one covers ChatGPT specifically, alongside four other engines. For a ChatGPT-only spot check you can query ChatGPT directly with your top queries and screenshot the answers. This checker does that across five engines with senior review.

How does this differ from a Perplexity or Gemini checker?

Single-engine checkers exist for each of them. This one covers all five major engines in one report. Single-engine visibility is an incomplete picture because buyers ask across engines.

What is AI search visibility and why does it matter for SEO?

AI search visibility measures how often your brand appears in AI-generated answers, separate from blue-link rankings. It matters because roughly 60% of Google searches now end without a click. Brands with no AI visibility are losing category demand that never shows up in Search Console.

Does this work for B2B SaaS or only ecommerce?

Both. It works for any brand whose buyers ask AI engines for category recommendations: B2B SaaS, ecommerce, professional services, agencies, CPG, beauty, supplements.
